Prayers for Others, 2011

Prayers for action, prayers for peace, prayers of compassion, prayers for justice and prayers of love are invoked as parts of many cultural and religious traditions. Wiggins asked participants in Prayers for Others, “What is the power and benefit of prayer that is intended for the benefit of others?” Wiggins collected and recorded prayers, poems and blessings from a wide circle of people and created a silken bannered space to house audio and video recordings. These contributions are in multiple languages and include a Jewish healing prayer, a Christian prayer for humility, a prayer for guidance from the Koran, a prayer for Pachamama, a sonnet for a bird, a Buddhist prayer for equanimity and many more. The installation invited visitors to enter airy spaces and quietly listen, look and contemplate these prayers for others.
